Driver Appears to Threaten Mom in Road Rage Video With Toddler

A North Carolina mother captured video of an apparent road rage incident on an interstate after she says another driver cut her off, slammed on the brakes in front of her and repeatedly threatened to kill her as her 3-year-old son cried from the back seat.

Myeka Dunn told FOX8 WGHP she was on her way to take her young son to her mother’s house around 4:30 p.m. Friday when a dark blue sedan suddenly swerved into her lane.

Dunn said she honked after the near-collision, but the encounter quickly intensified. The other driver allegedly tried to cut her off, brake-checked her multiple times and shouted violent threats from his vehicle.

“They almost hit me, so that’s when I honked my horn at them,” Dunn said.

Dunn records a driver leaning out of a vehicle on a highway while her son cries.

Dunn started filming as the driver followed her along the highway. In the video, the man appears to lean out of his vehicle and repeatedly shout, “You are going to die,” while Dunn’s 3-year-old son can be heard crying in the background. (Myeka Dunn)

As the situation continued, Dunn said she grabbed her phone and began recording the man as he followed her down the highway.

Footage shared online appears to show the driver leaning out of his car and yelling, “You are going to die! You are going to die!” while Dunn’s toddler sobs in the back seat.

The man then appears to continue shouting, “I could kill you! I could kill you!”

“You know my windows were cracked. He was able to see that my child was in the car,” Dunn told the outlet. “He totally disregarded that. He didn’t care.”

Dunn also called both 911 and the Guilford Metro non-emergency line to report the incident and informed dispatchers she had captured video of the incident but said she was disappointed with the response.

“To know that they’re still out there and nothing has been done about it is absolutely frustrating and scary,” Dunn said.

Deputy Director of Operations Christine Moore told FOX8 WGHP the dispatcher did not follow protocols.

“Typically, … we enter what we call a ‘be on the lookout’ or a BOLO. And we did. However, we did not enter all of the appropriate information that we should have. … She [the dispatcher] did enter the lookout. She didn’t enter all of the information that was pertinent, including that there was a video involved that the officer may want to see,” Moore said.

The Greensboro Police Department said officers issued a be-on-the-lookout alert, or BOLO, after receiving reports of a dark blue sedan swerving through traffic and yelling at other motorists.

Investigators have since identified the driver involved, though no arrest has been made.

“The victim has been advised how to obtain a warrant on a misdemeanor charge from the Magistrate’s Office due to the incident occurring outside the presence of officers,” the department said in a statement shared on Facebook.

Dunn also told WRAL News she is in the process of obtaining a misdemeanor warrant against the driver.

News Outlet has reached out to the Greensboro Police Department for further comment.
