AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The heat is only picking up, and the Richmond County Marshal’s office is helping combat it.

The Richmond County Marshal’s Office is hosting its Annual Fan Drive to keep residents cool as summer approaches.

These fans are to help Richmond County residents beat the heat.

“During the summer, as temperatures climb, we recognize that the elderly, low-income households, and people with medical issues are at heightened risk,” noted Lieutenant Monica Meyers from the Richmond County Marshal’s Office.

The Marchal’s Office is partnering up with the Augusta Dream Center to distribute the Fans around June 26th.

“Our goal is to show our commitment to the community and to assist citizens as best as we can because every interaction with a resident is seen as a chance to make a positive difference,” explained Meyers.

With utility costs on the rise, using air conditioning can lead to significantly higher bills, and they aim to support families that may struggle with these expenses. They are encouraging the local community to contribute by donating new box fans or monetary gifts towards purchasing fans.

“A lot of research shows that every summer, we have many of the elderly who will not turn on their AC units to cool them off because they’re trying to lower the cost of their electric bill. So, it’s important for us to help those people that are trying to lower their bills that low-income families who may not afford certain resources,” said Meyers.

Donations can be dropped off at the substation for the Richmond County Marshal’s office in Augusta at 3050 Deans Bridge Road until June 23rd. You can contact 706-821-2368 if you have questions.
