After waiting for five years, fans of “The Old Guard” will finally get to see the sequel on Netflix, where they will discover how Andy (played by Charlize Theron) handles losing her immortality. For those who need a thorough recap of the events from “The Old Guard,” you can simply scroll up to check out Looper’s summary.

Based on the Image Comics series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, “The Old Guard” tells the story of Andy, also known as Andromache of Scythia, along with warriors Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), and Nicky (Luca Marinelli). These ancient fighters live as mercenaries in the modern world. Their routine is disrupted when they accept a mission from CIA operative James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who sends them to Sudan for a rescue operation. Copley, however, turns out to be a double-crosser. During the mission, they rescue newly discovered immortal Nile Freeman (KiKi Layne) and must evade Copley, who seeks to exploit their mysterious healing abilities for his own purposes.

“The Old Guard” was a significant critical success, earning an 80 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also very popular with audiences, ranking among Netflix’s most-watched original films, with 78 million households streaming it in its first month. On July 2, fans will reunite with Andy and discover how she is grappling with the aftermath of the original movie when “The Old Guard 2” is released.

The Old Guard 2 will see Andy grapple with her mortality

Per Netflix’s description of “The Old Guard 2,” when the movie begins, Andy is coping with life sans immortality as best she can. Booker remains in exile after betraying the group at the end of “The Old Guard,” and Quynh (Veronica Ngô) still wants to kill Andy after her millennia-old betrayal — but a new threat arrives in the form of a fresh mystery. Facing the biggest threat of their very long lives, the team turns to Tuah (Henry Golding) for help. Tuah may be the only one who knows why Andy and the team have been blessed — and cursed — with the type of immortality they have.
