Polite black bear stuns New Hampshire homeowners after ringing doorbell before exploring hot tub: video

A curious black bear ambled right up to a home in New Hampshire and playfully pressed the doorbell before checking out a nearby hot tub, as shown in charming surveillance footage shared by the residents.

The bear looked around the patio in the yard before poking its snout at the Ring doorbell, sniffing it appraisingly.

The cub then rose onto its hind legs, using its clawed paw to push the doorbell, and peeked through a nearby window as if waiting for someone to come to the door.

The bear staggered backwards when the doorbell rang, eyeing it for a moment before pivoting back around to explore the rest of the patio.

It stood up straight again once it spotted the hot tub and placed its paws right on the cover, jabbing it with its snout.

When the cover didn’t budge, the bear seemingly surrendered and wandered deeper into the vast yard.

“At least he was polite enough to ring the doorbell to see if we were home,” resident Jay Lievens wrote on Facebook.

Black bears are extremely common in New Hampshire, with an estimated population of around 5,000, according to the state’s Fish and Game Department.

Generally, these creatures are quite non-aggressive, with no recorded fatalities in New Hampshire since 1784, according to the department. Nonetheless, as wild animals equipped with incredibly sharp teeth, people should maintain a safe distance.

In April, similar home security footage captured a playful bear exploring a child’s playground and taking a ride down the slide in Connecticut.

In North Carolina, one man scared off a bear poking around his front yard by donning a shoddy bear costume of his own.

Meanwhile, a bear cub in New Jersey scaled a second-floor balcony while his friends were digging through a nearby dumpster, when the resident accidentally let their dog out. The ferocious protector of the home rushed forward and started to bark at the cub, who rushed back down to the ground in record time before scampering away into the woods.
