ELMHURST, Ill. (WLS) — Storms brought gusty winds, lightning and heavy rain to parts of the Chicago area on Sunday afternoon.

One system moved through west suburban Elmhurst rather quickly, but it created flooding problems for residents in the area.

The water slowly receded at an underpass near East Park Avenue later Sunday night, but at one point during the day, the whole street was flooded.

An ABC7 team encountered another site in Elmhurst close to the city center where an apartment building experienced flooding in both its lobby and parking garage. Large fans were employed in the lobby to facilitate drying.

Other residents told ABC7 off-camera that they were dealing with flooded yards and basements in some parts of town.

Video footage from around Elmhurst shows flooded streets near York Road.

Roads have slowly been reopening on Sunday night as that water recedes.

The city of Elmhurst says its crews have been addressing necessary areas throughout the evening.

If residents have any issues, they should report them on the Elmhurst connect app.

This all comes after heavy rain caused flooding in parts of the Chicago area on Friday.
