NYC museum visitor, 34, jumps to his death at the Whitney

A 34-year-old man jumped to his death from the Whitney Museum in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials and sources.

The unidentified individual was discovered on Gansevoort Street near the upscale Chelsea art museum just before 5:30 p.m., with injuries suggestive of a fall from a height, as stated by the NYPD.

EMS declared the man dead at the scene, cops said.

According to sources, the man took his own life by jumping from a high point within the art venue, which features numerous elevated outdoor areas for guests.

The man was a visitor to the Whitney, according to the museum.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of life of a visitor. Our thoughts go out to their loved ones, as well as to our staff, visitors, and nearby residents who were present,” a spokesperson expressed in a statement.

“We are working closely with the authorities and offering assistance in every possible way. The Whitney will have a delayed opening tomorrow, Thursday, July 31st, at 12 pm.”

An investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.
