A recently released photograph shows Bryan Kohberger, the confessed University of Idaho murderer, shortly after his arrest at his parents’ residence in Pennsylvania.

Lt. Darren Gilbertson from the Idaho State Police, the lead investigator on the case, informed ABC News that Kohberger was seen “sorting through garbage, wearing gloves, just moments before the arrest.”

Police Chief Anthony Dahlinger of Moscow, Idaho, who was a captain during the investigation and became chief last year, recounted how he received a text from investigators on December 30, 2022, about six weeks after the killings, stating, “We got him.”

“Right after that, there was a photograph of him handcuffed at the scene,” Dahlinger noted. “The relief I felt in that moment is indescribable.”

The photo shows Kohberger, wearing dark shorts and a dark hoodie, sitting with his hands behind his back, staring at the camera.

Gilbertson, who was part of the team that interviewed Kohberger on that day, described him as “expressionless.” He noted that the Washington State University criminology graduate student had a tendency to “speak to you to educate and enlighten.” Kohberger spoke extensively about WSU and Pullman, approximately 10 miles from Moscow, the site of the Washington school. Gilbertson mentioned that Kohberger inquired repeatedly about the reason for his interview.

Eventually, Gilbertson said, he told him, “We’re here because of the case in Moscow.”

“Once we disclosed the reason, he immediately stopped talking,” said Gilbertson. “We asked if he was aware of or had knowledge about Moscow, to which he replied no and then insisted on having an attorney.”

Kohberger pleaded guilty last month to the murders of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Kaylee Goncalves and was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences plus 10 years for a burglary charge.

He is currently being housed in the “J” block of the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, which is considered the most restrictive area, ABC reported.
