On the initial day of President Donald Trump’s intensified crime reduction efforts in Washington, D.C., a joint effort between federal and local authorities resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals. These included suspects wanted for serious offenses like murder and gun-related crimes.

FBI Director Kash Patel, who backed Trump’s strategy to assume control of the Metropolitan Police Department for combating crime in the capital, shared an update on these actions in a post on X Tuesday night.

“During the first significant momentum of the FBI supporting @POTUS @realDonaldTrump’s plan to enhance safety in DC, the FBI reported 10 arrests alongside partners,” the director announced.

He said the 10 arrests included one for a search warrant on a prior murder charge.

Jeanine Pirro, speaking on August 12, 2025, emphasized that violent crime disproportionately impacts the Washington, D.C. community. She contended that anyone claiming a decrease in crime rates should discuss the impact with families who have lost their young members to gun violence.

During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro expressed her need to understand the current D.C. crime scenario, specifically regarding the number of teenagers affected by gun violence.

She presented a poster depicting several victims of under 20 years of age, shot in 2024, highlighting that 29 youths, some as young as three, were killed in the district. Additionally, she displayed another poster for 2025, showing 16 victims under 20 who were shot and killed.

“What this makes clear to me is that there is a whole community that is suffering because of the violent crime in this district, and anyone who wants to tell me that crime is down and that we don’t need an emergency focus on crimes of violence, all they need to do is take a look at this and talk to the loved ones and the family members of these individuals who were shot and killed under the age of 20,” Pirro said.

“I don’t know how many of these cases have been solved, but what I can tell you is, again, it’s guns on the streets. It’s individuals who are not concerned about accountability, who don’t have any reason to fear law enforcement,” she continued. “I am here today to tell you that on behalf of all of these victims, all of these families, that they’re going to be accountable, that we are going to make a difference, and that we are going to make sure that law enforcement is focused on these innocent, now silent victims of crime in the district.”
