Federal prosecutors allege that the crimes occurred while the child’s father was enlisted as a soldier at the Army base.

A couple from Georgia has been accused of starving their child, leading to her death while they were stationed at Fort Stewart, and are now facing serious murder charges, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia on Friday.

The couple, identified as 29-year-old Brandon M. Kelley and 26-year-old Stacey D. Kelley, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for crimes connected to the tragic death of their daughter, Vyolet Kelley, according to officials.

The indictment was made public on Friday, revealing that the couple allegedly withheld essential food and medical care from their daughter while residing at the military base. It is stated that these events transpired during Brandon Kelley’s period of service as a soldier.

“The allegations in this situation are profoundly distressing,” stated Acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons. “Our office remains committed to collaborating with law enforcement to ensure justice is achieved.”

The couple was indicted on charges of felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

If convicted, the couple could face up to life in prison.

First Coast News has requested a copy of the indictment and is waiting to hear back.

The investigation was carried out by the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division, with Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy P. Dean and E. Greg Gilluly Jr. handling the prosecution.
