CHICAGO (WLS) — A poignant melody of love and loss reflects the deep emotions tearing through Marcela Herrera’s family as they struggle to deal with her sudden passing and the unanswered questions that surround her death.
“Her dreams and her life were cut short by the recklessness of an irresponsible driver,” said Naomi Herrera, Marcela Herrera’s sister.

At 22, Marcela was tragically killed one month ago this Tuesday, when she and her fiancé were struck by a driver in a dark-colored Dodge Journey, which left her 21-year-old fiancé injured.
“Our pain is immense, and our soul is shattered, because to this day, we have not received any response from the relevant authorities,” Naomi said.
On Tuesday night, family and friends gathered in front of Chicago Police’s 12th District, demanding more from investigators.
“We’ve felt completely ignored. We’ve made calls, sent messages and still haven’t received a response,” Naomi said.
The hit-and-run incident occurred near Ashland and Cullerton in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, where a memorial for Marcela has been growing, along with demands for justice.
The community came together to march from the police station to the site of her death, holding a vigil in her memory. They then distributed flyers in the area with a key lead: a surveillance image of the SUV that left the scene, impacting countless lives.
“Marcela deserved to live freely without fear in her neighborhood. We won’t rest until the driver is caught. Justice for Marcela is needed now,” expressed one of her childhood friends.

ABC7 reached out to CPD, and they say they have no updates in this case.
