A Georgia woman did not have the support of her husband after she was accused of repeatedly beating her 14-year-old grandson.

Patricia Green was apprehended on Sunday and charged with cruelty to children. As detailed in a report accessed by local CBS affiliate WRDW, authorities from the Burke County Sheriff’s office received a call from a counselor at Burke County High School concerning a 14-year-old student. Upon their arrival, the student was in discussions with his counselor, reporting mistreatment by his grandmother, Green.

According to the police, the boy appeared with a split lip, a head injury, and bruises on his left arm. The report indicated he claimed Green assaulted him regularly. The head wound was purportedly due to Green striking him with a dustpan. The boy alleged that Green’s aggressive behavior was linked to her heavy drinking.

As reported by WRDW, the boy recounted that his grandfather frequently attempted to intervene, only for Green to redirect her aggression towards him. Additionally, she would contact the authorities on the grandfather, who had past encounters with law enforcement.

Upon interviewing the grandfather at their residence, officers noted his support for the boy’s testimony, stating, “Whatever he told you is the truth.” He revealed Green’s anger stemmed from lack of child support, as the child’s parents were unable to care for him, resulting in Green and her husband having custody of both him and another child.

The grandfather supported the assertion of nightly abuse towards the boy, while noting Green did not exhibit violence towards the other child. He mentioned to the authorities that advising the boy to seek help from a school counselor was necessary, as he felt he could not adequately protect him.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office got a warrant for Green, who was not at the home when police spoke to her husband, and arrested her on Sunday for cruelty to children. She was released on bond.

WRDW reported that Green was employed by a local hospital and had been suspended while she was being investigated.
