Police hunting driver over deadly hit and run

Police are today seeking a driver in Melbourne over a hit and run that left a cyclist dead.

The victim was standing by his bike on Moreland Road at Coburg, in the city’s north, when he was hit by a car, about 6.20pm yesterday.

The man, who has not been officially identified, was initially taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died overnight.

The driver of the car remains outstanding this morning.

Police believe the vehicle involved may be a light coloured (white or silver) European small to mid-sized SUV.

Investigators believe it will have visible damage to both the front and passenger side.

The investigation remains ongoing.
