A fatal incident occurred near the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado on Sunday when two planes collided midair, resulting in one death and three injuries, according to law enforcement.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reported that upon receiving a crash report around 10:45 a.m., deputies and emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene, discovering two aircraft downed in fields near the airport.

Initial findings indicated that a small Cessna on its final approach to the runway was hit midair by another plane. Witnesses observed the two aircraft clipping one another before they crashed to the ground.

The sheriff’s office noted that both aircraft caught fire upon impact. Smoke billowed from the sites as first responders and nearby individuals worked to put out the flames.
