CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) — Nearly a month following the arrest of the owner of a wellness spa in Cullman on charges of using her business for drug trafficking, her father has now been apprehended.
Kelvin Neil Cheatham, 55, surrendered to authorities Thursday morning. His daughter, Whitney Cheatham, was taken into custody in August, facing multiple drug trafficking and conspiracy charges, along with forgery. As the proprietor of Infusion Wellness Spa, she allegedly sold drugs such as oxycodone and falsified prescriptions, according to prosecutors.
Police had been looking for Kelvin Cheatham as early as Aug. 19. He is charged with the following:
2 counts of Drug Trafficking (Title 13A-12-231(3))
- 2 counts of drug trafficking
- 1 count of attempted drug trafficking
- 1 count of criminal conspiracy to commit drug trafficking
- 1 count of criminal conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime
- 1 count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance by fraud
- 5 counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument
Cheatham has had previous legal issues. In 2008, he faced charges of first-degree rape and second-degree sodomy involving a minor, but eventually pled guilty to sexual misconduct–a lesser charge–in 2009. He was sentenced to six months in prison before being released.
Whitney Cheatham also faces accusations of selling or attempting to sell other controlled substances, including Adderall, testosterone cypionate, Xanax, and hydrocodone. Furthermore, she is charged with practicing medicine or osteopathy without holding a license.
The case remains under investigation with police saying that further arrests could be made.
