An Arizona man accused of murdering his girlfriend and her dog and then calling his ex to boast about it has been found guilty.

Taton Dorfman, aged 30, was found guilty on Wednesday of second-degree murder for the death of 30-year-old Hannah Rogers, as reported by the local Tucson CBS station, KOLD.

Dorfman committed the crime on the night of July 28, 2024.

He shot Rogers in the head, killing her, and he also shot and killed her dog, authorities said. Then, he called his ex-girlfriend.

As reported by the local ABC affiliate KGUN, Dorfman used FaceTime to contact his ex-girlfriend and displayed himself lying by Rogers’ body, which had blood around her head.

“I killed her! I did it!” he reportedly exclaimed.

The ex-girlfriend reportedly took screenshots of the call and alerted the authorities. Law enforcement reached the crime scene on West Mosquito Drive around 10:30 p.m. and attempted to communicate with Dorfman, according to the Marana Police Department. However, Dorfman “barricaded himself in the home for several hours.”

Throughout the standoff, Dorfman confessed to murdering Rogers and indicated he planned to take his own life. Officers, aided by the Pima County SWAT team, managed to persuade Dorfman to come out of the house at 3:30 a.m. the next day. According to KOLD, he had blood on his face and hands but showed no wounds.

Authorities discovered extensive drug paraphernalia and alcohol inside the residence, alongside Rogers’ body and a deceased dog. Dorfman was taken into custody and charged with murder and animal cruelty.

A GoFundMe created for Rogers described her as “a beautiful, smart and funny woman.”

“She lit up rooms with her smile,” it goes on. “She was caring for all life, and would always be there for anyone in need of help. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We are still in disbelief that this has happened.”

Dorfman is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 20.

Marana is about 20 miles northwest of Tucson, Arizona.
