Two million individuals without legal immigration status “have been removed or have self-deported” from the U.S. since January 20, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Trump administration seems poised to set unprecedented numbers, according to their announcement.
In roughly 250 days, about 1.6 million individuals voluntarily left the country, complemented by 400,000 deportations executed by federal authorities, marking what DHS calls a “new milestone.”
“The Trump administration is on the trajectory to break historical records by deporting nearly 600,000 illegal immigrants by the end of President Donald Trump’s first year in office,” the department stated. “DHS has made the situation clear: the age of unregulated borders is over. For four consecutive months, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has not released any undocumented individuals into the nation.”
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin noted that the statistics demonstrate the effectiveness of “President Trump’s policies and Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s leadership in enhancing the safety of American communities.”

“The capacity for deportation is progressively increasing as Secretary Noem arranges for additional detention centers such as Alligator Alcatraz, Speedway Slammer, Cornhusker Clink, and Louisiana Lockup,” the department added. “These advancements will improve the process of arresting, detaining, and deporting illegal immigrants, making it more efficient and streamlined than ever, thus supporting the ongoing rise in deportations.”
Just days into Trump’s second term in office, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt declared, “deportation flights have begun,” releasing photos of migrants boarding military aircraft.

“President Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States of America, you will face severe consequences,” she said at the time.
