CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Starting Monday, a couple of Champaign streets will experience either full or partial lane closures to facilitate sewer system maintenance and repairs.

This work will be conducted on Harvard Street and Bloomington Road, specifically between Prospect and Harris Avenues. On Harvard, Lanz Underground is set to carry out a sanitary sewer repair, necessitating the road’s closure for one week — from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6, contingent on weather conditions.

Through traffic will not be allowed, but access will be maintained to all local properties, city officials said.

Meanwhile, National Power Rodding Corp. will handle routine storm sewer maintenance on Bloomington, with officials indicating that temporary lane closures might cause delays, though no full road closures are expected.

The City of Champaign has granted a noise ordinance waiver to adjust construction hours, allowing work to occur between 4-7 a.m. This schedule aims to complete tasks before the morning rush, officials explained.

Work is scheduled to be finished by Friday, Oct. 3, but this work is also weather-dependent.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes to bypass delays, but if travel through or near the work zones is necessary, it is crucial to heed traffic control devices and proceed cautiously.
