MAUREEN CALLAHAN's dark prediction for Sean Combs' next act

What a farce.

Four years — with time served, more like three, and with good behavior, probably two — for Diddy.

With the anticipatory statements from Judge Arun Subramanian — known for his ‘name ’em and shame ’em’ approach — it appeared that a significantly harsher prison sentence was anticipated.

Combs could have gone away for 20 years.

Before Friday’s sentencing, the prevailing expectation, fueled by the graphic, violent, and distressing testimony from Combs’s female victims and footage of Combs savagely beating Cassie Ventura in a hotel corridor, was that the judge might align with the prosecution’s demand for an 11-year sentence, aiming for a balanced decision.

If only.

Here’s what the judge had the temerity to say of this slap on the wrist: ‘Deterrence requires a significant sentence.’

Subramanian described Combs’s videotaped assault on Cassie as ‘savage’ and emphasized the importance of sending a clear message, highlighting the ‘irreparable harm’ Combs inflicted on his victims.

Given the lead-up from the judge in this case — Arun Subramanian (pictured, right), name 'em and shame 'em — it seemed a much more substantial prison sentence was in the offing. Combs could have gone away for 20 years.

The lead-up from the judge — Arun Subramanian, seen in the picture on the right — suggested that a considerably more severe prison term was expected. Combs faced the possibility of a 20-year sentence.

Subramanian indicated that Combs’s arrogance, demonstrated by his continued hosting of ‘freak-offs’ even after federal search warrants were served at his residences in Los Angeles and Florida, would lead to severe repercussions for him.

Seriously: Did this judge even consider his own words? Was he aware of the message he was about to convey not only to Combs’s victims but to women everywhere? To other influential, wealthy, and powerful men?

‘You abused the power and control you had over the lives of women you professed to love dearly,’ Subramarian said to Combs. ‘Why did it go on so long? Because you had the power and resources to keep it going.’

Exactly. That’s exactly why a lengthy, substantive sentence needed to be imposed —to send the message to men like Combs that abuse of such power and resources will carry a heavy cost.

Incredibly, Combs was acquitted of all charges pertaining to Cassie Ventura — a woman who, at 9 months pregnant, spent days on the stand testifying to the years-long violence and threats she suffered.

Who, in her original civil complaint, charged that an enraged Sean Combs stomped her face with his feet in the back of an SUV, that Combs’s driver tried to intervene and was warned off, and that she went inside and threw up from the force of the beating.

She testified to this incident, which allegedly took place in LA in 2007, in this very trial — even as she heard from far too many quarters that old, victim-blaming chestnut: Why didn’t she just leave?

This sentence is a travesty. It just set the understanding of what domestic abuse is, how it happens, and why victims find themselves trapped back decades.

Ventura didn’t have to testify. Others didn’t. Some only spoke out anonymously. But Ventura exposed just about every detail of the degrading abuse that she suffered for years, even making herself vulnerable to possible retaliation from maniac Diddy defenders.

And what did she get for her courage?

Next to nothing.

Of that night in the SUV, Cassie said of Combs, on the stand: ‘His eyes went black’.

It took her a week to recover from that vicious pummeling. She also testified that Combs raped her; that he called her mom and threatened to release Cassie’s sex tapes unless she paid Combs $30,000 (which required remortgaging her house); that she lived ‘in fear’ of Combs and his access to guns; and that she once told him ‘You treat me like you’re Ike Turner’ — who infamously abused Tina Turner for years.

Fifty months for all of that, but really 24. And Combs is probably going to see the inside of a cushy Club Fed.

Housewives get heavier sentences for a lot less. Jen Shah, of Bravo’s ‘Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’, was given six and a half years for fleecing the elderly.

Sean Combs could have killed these women.

One thing is clear: Harvey Weinstein is the entertainment industry’s sacrificial lamb. Combs sat through what many rightly see as a show trial. None of his famous friends or colleagues, many of whom were at these freak-offs, have suffered a bit.

None of the feminist #MeToo cheerleaders of the industry said a peep about Sean Combs, then or now.

Rapper 50 Cent is a lone voice. In a ‘letter to the judge’ posted on X the night before sentencing, he wrote of Combs, ‘He is very dangerous. Multiple times I have feared for my life. I think you should consider the safety of the general public.’

It took Ventura a week to recover from that vicious pummeling. She also testified that Combs raped her (Pictured: Evidence of bruises on Ventura presented at Combs' trial)

Not happening.

Combs had been acquitted of the most serious charges against him, but Subramanian made it known that he could, and would, take those same charges into consideration when sentencing Combs.

Which begs the question: Just what does Judge Subramanian consider abuse, violence, and danger against women?

Against society? Combs is, after all, the same guy who threatened to blow up a rival rapper’s car and then allegedly ordered. Combs is the same guy who dodged charges for a fatal stampeded at New York’s City College in 1991 during a basketball game he promoted.

He’s the same guy who was arrested, with JLo, in a 1999 nightclub shooting in NYC that saw a woman get shot in the face — and though most everyone in the hip-hop community believes Combs was responsible, his protégée, who later said he was ‘the fall guy’, did the time for that one.

He’s also the guy rumored to have been involved in the death of his ‘best friend,’ rapper Biggie Smalls, as well as the death of Tupac Shakur. Combs has always denied the latter.

Nonetheless: He’s a bad guy. He was held in prison awaiting trial — despite three attempts by Combs attorneys to get him out — because he was reported to be intimidating witnesses.

And his biggest gripe about prison? Fellow inmate Luigi Mangione was getting more fan mail.

But oh, the theatrics inside that courtroom on Friday. You’d think the judge would have more respect for himself and the court than to hand down this love-tap after he scolded Combs for never once showing remorse or contrition.

For learning, as the prosecution revealed Friday, that Combs was so arrogant, so sure he’d get his way and walk free, that he’d scheduled a paid speaking gig in Miami for next week.

Or for Combs’s defense lawyer Nicole Westmoreland breaking into tears twice as she argued for leniency, in no small part because Combs had once won a menswear award.

Front to back, this entire trial was a farce, and a judge who promised to make this right by the women Combs abused — and, by extension, all women — has done just as much harm.

We all know what’s coming: Sean Combs, upon his release, waving a Bible, telling us he’s a changed man, and reentering society and the rap industry with ease.

Truly: Who would ever come forward now?
