Costco customers spot major flaw with viral marshmallow crispy cookies

Costco members are finding inventive ways to make the most of one of the chain’s buzziest Kirkland Signature sweets.

The warehouse retailer has made a number of summer moves, including debuting its first standalone gas station and reviving a bakery favorite: Kirkland Signature Marshmallow Crispy Cookies.

The oversized cookies are packed with melted marshmallow pockets, but their standout texture comes from crispy rice folded into the dough, creating a crunchier, sturdier bite than many of Costco’s other bakery desserts.

On Costco’s website, the Marshmallow Crispy Cookies are sold only in 24-count packages, priced at $11.34 online and $9.99 in most warehouses, putting each cookie at under $1.

The cookies originally launched last year and quickly built a loyal following, with shoppers snapping up packs for months before the item disappeared without much notice.

With the treat now back in stores, fans are buying in bulk again. One Reddit user posted a photo showing most of the cookies portioned into pairs in an effort to preserve freshness.

Since the cookies come only in packs of 24, some shoppers say it can be a challenge to get through them before the texture changes. When kept in an airtight container, they typically remain soft and chewy for about seven to 10 days before starting to dry out.

“Had to vacuum seal and put them in the freezer to slow me and my spouse down,” the user wrote. “I’m only delaying the inevitable.”

Others chimed in, noting that the cookies only chewy for two or three days in the original packaging.

‘Dude I’ve eaten so many and there are SO many left,’ one Reddit user wrote. ‘Good call on sealing them – mine are getting stale.’

‘I freeze mine,’ another suggested. ‘Thawing them one cookie at a time’

‘Got a package of these last time they were carrying them,’ one Reddit user wrote. ‘Ate about eight to ten of the cookies over a period of a week. The rest sat until I ultimately just tossed them.’

For some Costco shoppers, though, the cookies ‘don’t last long enough’ to get sealed and saved. One Reddit user wrote, ‘I gave out four and consumed the rest by myself in three days.’

‘My wife and I swore we would do this,’ another added. ‘Unfortunately, we finished the pack instead.’

Some shared creative recipes to make the sweet treats even more irresistible, like using them in place of graham crackers when making smores or spreading ice cream between two cookies for a marshmallow sandwich.

This wouldn’t be the first time Costco changed its sweet treat offerings at the warehouse and online.

The strawberry streusel cheesecake made its debut in the spring of 2025 and has since disappeared and reappeared from the store’s offerings.

Instead of reviving the beloved twisted churro, axed months ago in 2024, the warehouse giant launched a $2.99 caramel churro sundae – topped with bite-sized pieces of churro.

The new dessert features vanilla soft serve drizzled with salted caramel sauce and sprinkled with what Costco is calling ‘churro bites’ – a chopped-up version of the original.

The $1 fan-favorite churro first debuted in the 1990s but was pulled from food court menus at the start of the pandemic.

Now, Costco’s food court remains one of the most popular in America, famous for its ultra-cheap staples like the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, pizza slices and the $3.99 chicken bake.
