ORLANDO, Fla. – As of 8 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas of interest.

The first is a weak area of low pressure over the central Gulf. Although it is not expected to develop into a tropical storm over the coming days, it may still cause periods of heavy rainfall in regions of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as the weekend approaches, and could eventually impact the Texas coast. Strong upper-level winds are anticipated to prevent any significant development.

The second system is a tropical wave near Africa’s coastline. This system has a higher likelihood of development and might evolve into a tropical depression later in the week. Long-range forecasts currently indicate that the system will remain over open waters during the week.

The NHC gives it a 60% chance to develop in 7 days.
