A Missouri police officer has been killed while assisting in a mutual aid operation in Mississippi County, according to officials.

On Oct. 6, Officer Henry Franklin, aged 41, was tragically shot while assisting the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office in serving a warrant at a home, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety (SDPS).

The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicated that the warrant was issued for Nathan B. Peters, 36, who was sought in relation to a homicide that had taken place earlier that day.

A statement on the SDPS Facebook page revealed that Franklin, a member of the SDPS Tactical Team, responded to a mutual aid request to find and capture Peters.

Franklin was born and raised in Charleston, Missouri.

In recognition of Franklin’s dedication and sacrifice, Sikeston Mayor Greg Turnbow instructed that all flags in the city be lowered to half-staff until Franklin’s funeral has concluded.

The SDPS did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
