Bryan Kohberger drove for hours after the Idaho student murders, eventually captured on surveillance footage as he nonchalantly shopped and used a self-checkout register.

In Moscow, Idaho, authorities released extensive surveillance footage they planned to present at trial, until Kohberger, a former criminology Ph.D. student of 30 years, pled guilty to avoid a possible death sentence.

These clips display how police could track his movements despite his phone being off during the crimes, and illustrate how the socially awkward killer attempted to enter a Costco but was seemingly denied entry for lack of a membership card.

Following Kohberger’s sentencing in July, the first media briefing since his arrest on December 30, 2022, detectives expressed confidence they would have identified him without the knife sheath by honing in on the suspect vehicle.

The video compilation includes numerous clips from surveillance cameras along the path to and from the crime scene, depicting what seems to be Kohberger’s white Hyundai Elantra in different locations before and after the murders.

Before the killings, Kohberger had minor interactions with police in Moscow and nearby Pullman, Washington, despite having only recently begun his studies at Washington State University. These incidents, captured on police bodycam footage, assisted detectives in connecting him to the vehicle.

He also changed his license plate after the murders, switching from a Pennsylvania registration to a local one.

Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole, plus another 10 years. As part of the plea deal, he waived his rights to appeal or seek a future sentence reduction.
