An 18-year-old Wisconsin man was intoxicated and driving at speeds ranging from 130 to 145 mph just after midnight on Sunday when he crashed into another vehicle in Appleton, resulting in the death of the second car’s driver.

A criminal complaint notes that an officer detected the “odor of intoxicants” on Carter Green at the crash scene and that he did not pass field sobriety tests, WGBA reported. His preliminary breath test showed a result of .178 — over twice the legal limit for adults over 21 in Wisconsin. Those under 21 are prohibited from drinking and driving altogether.

Green slammed into a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Casey Sjober gat the intersection of North Richmond Street and the Inter 41 off ramp.

According to Law&Crime, Green ran a red light and struck Sjoberg’s vehicle. When asked by police if he’d been drinking, Green responded, “Absolutely not,” as stated in the criminal complaint.

However, the field sobriety tests, preliminary breath results, and Green’s passenger contradicted his denial. The passenger, who has not been named, informed police that they were at a bonfire at a friend’s residence drinking and continued consuming alcohol after leaving and heading to a strip club.

The passenger informed police that after the crash, Green repeatedly said, “I’m screwed, I’m screwed, I’m screwed” and mentioned seeing the speedometer reach 130 mph. The complaint also indicated that Green had installed a new turbo in his car the day before the crash.

Green, police wrote in their report, “seemed to have no remorse or concern for the other people involved in the crash.”

A passenger in Sjoberg’s vehicle was taken to the hospital; Sjoberg was pronounced dead on the scene.

Green appeared in court on Friday, facing charges of reckless homicide and operating a vehicle while under the influence. He was issued a $100,000 bond. His subsequent court date is set for December 1.
