Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, Lawrence Bradley III, aged 39, was apprehended for allegedly dragging, choking, and assaulting a friend, as well as for allegedly kicking and damaging a police vehicle.

At approximately 2:08 a.m. on October 14, officers from the Gainesville Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of the Senior Recreation Center (5701 NW 34th Blvd.). The victim reported that although she and Bradley are friends, he became inexplicably angry and dragged her across the concrete; he then reportedly choked her and punched her several times in the face. She called 911 in an attempt to escape him and seek medical attention for her injuries. Officers noted that the victim had sustained injuries to her arm, chest, knee, and back, and her voice was barely audible due to the choking.

Officers arrived before EMS, and Bradley reportedly fled when he saw them, but he later returned to the area on a bicycle.

Bradley was reportedly uncooperative and said the victim had injured herself.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced three glass pipes in Bradley’s backpack, and Bradley reportedly said he used them to smoke crack.

While seated in a patrol car, Bradley allegedly kicked the door deliberately, damaging the door frame, with the damage estimated at $500.

Bradley faces charges of felony battery as a repeat offender, property damage, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has 10 felony convictions (including five for violent offenses) and eight misdemeanor convictions (including three for violent offenses) and has served four state prison terms, having most recently been released on August 1, 2025. He is currently on probation for domestic battery by strangulation. Judge Susan Miller-Jones has set his bail at $82,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are drawn from the arrest report and/or court records and remain only accusations. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
