Woman Faces Charges After Allegedly Distributing Cooler Containing Fetus

In Pulaski County, Missouri, a woman faces charges after allegedly giving her romantic partner a cooler containing a deceased fetus. This startling incident has been confirmed by local law enforcement.

According to official documents, Makayla Haedt had been involved in an on-again, off-again relationship with the man for several years. Haedt had claimed she was expecting a child, but her partner expressed skepticism, referring to her as a “habitual liar,” which led him to doubt her pregnancy announcement.

On September 17, in Waynesville, two months after Haedt initially shared her pregnancy news, she visited the man’s home following a message stating she had suffered a miscarriage. During the visit, the pair ran errands and later burned trash together at his residence.

The man recounted to police that Haedt disposed of a Walmart bag, which seemed to contain clothing, into the fire. Subsequently, she handed him a cooler sealed with green tape, cryptically remarking, “Here’s your kid,” before driving away.

For more than an hour, the man wrestled with what to do about the cooler, fearing it might contain a deceased fetus. Although he harbored suspicions that Haedt might be playing a “cruel, messed-up joke,” he sought advice from family and friends. Eventually, a friend joined him to help open the cooler and confront the unsettling reality within.

When they opened it, they found a fetus. They shut the cooler and called police.

When officers arrived, the man was apologizing for them having to see that, saying, “This is the type of thing you see on the internet all the time, but don’t think it will ever happen to you.” Police noted in the probable cause statement the man had tears in his eyes and was having difficulty describing how he was feeling.

Detectives and the coroner were called to the scene and began an investigation. The fetus was transported to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital to determine its weight.

Police located Haedt driving along Lassiter Lane in Waynesville.

The Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Haedt with first-degree harassment. She’s being held on a $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
