Oswego, IL Chick-fil-A: Darryl Lee Jr., 19, charged with murder in stabbing, attack at restaurant on Route 34 held in custody

A man implicated in a fatal stabbing incident at a Chick-Fil-A in Oswego is to remain detained following his court appearance on Friday.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Darryl Lee Jr. from Kankakee. Allegedly, Lee Jr. forced entry into the restaurant located on the 2700 block of Route 34 at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. He is accused of assaulting a delivery driver, 52-year-old Tracey Land from Bridgeview, with a hammer and knife, resulting in Land’s death.

Additionally, a maintenance worker suffered a stabbing but survived the attack. This worker managed to restrain the assailant until law enforcement arrived, according to officials.

Lee Jr. is now facing 11 felony charges, which include first-degree murder. As of now, he has not entered a plea, as stated by officials.

Lee Jr. is scheduled for another court appearance next Thursday, as announced by the Kendall County State’s Attorney.

The mother of the injured maintenance worker, who was close by during the assault and attempted to intervene, shared her account with ABC7 anonymously over the phone on Wednesday.

“There were hitting each other,” she said. “The guy got my son on the floor, so I got out of the car and I was trying to get him away from my son so he couldn’t hit my son anymore.”

When they arrived, police say a they found her son pinning the attacker down and they were able to take him into custody.

The Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force was activated to assist with the investigation and processing of the scene.
