'No plans on moving': Liam Coen shuts down trade rumors surrounding Jaguars' WR Brian Thomas Jr.

During his routine press briefing, Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen decisively quashed any speculation about trading wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Monday, Coach Liam Coen of the Jacksonville Jaguars firmly dismissed trade rumors concerning Brian Thomas Jr., a promising wide receiver in his second year with the team. Addressing the media, Coen stated unequivocally that the team intends to keep Thomas. “We have no plans on moving Brian Thomas Jr. at all,” Coen emphasized, adding that he had a lengthy discussion with Thomas that morning, which served as a refreshing reset for the team as they look ahead with a 4-3 record.

Thomas made a name for himself last season as one of the most dynamic young receivers in the NFL, amassing over 1,200 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns, placing him third in the league. However, his sophomore season has been more tumultuous, with Thomas leading the league in dropped passes—nine in total—over the first seven games, highlighting issues with consistency and coordination in the Jaguars’ aerial attack.

The introduction of rookie Travis Hunter has added complexity to Jacksonville’s offensive strategy, causing the passing game to struggle in finding its groove. Despite these challenges, Coach Coen remains optimistic about Thomas’s potential and the offense’s ability to rebound.

“No matter what has occurred in the first seven games, whether good, bad, or indifferent, we have the power to shape our story,” Coen remarked. “I have immense faith in our team. I genuinely believe we can improve and advance our passing game.”

“Regardless, good, bad, or indifferent, what’s happened in the first seven games we all have an opportunity to write a narrative,” Coen said. “We own the narrative, and I’ve got a lot of confidence in them. I really do believe we can turn the corner and get better in the pass game that way.”

Given Thomas’ age, contract, and upside, a trade remains highly unlikely as Jacksonville looks to strengthen its offense heading into the second half of the season.
