Boy, 17, charged with murder after stabbing in popular Hobart nightlife spot
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after an altercation between two groups left a man dead at a popular nightlife spot.

Late Saturday night, at around 11:45 pm, a violent clash between two groups erupted on Morrison Street in the lively Salamanca entertainment district, located in Tasmania’s capital.

Authorities suspect that this confrontation stemmed from an earlier dispute involving individuals from each group.

During the altercation, two young men, aged 20 and 23, suffered stab wounds.

Tragically, the 20-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the 23-year-old was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.

In response to the incident, police launched an investigation and have since charged a 17-year-old male with several offenses.

The charges include murder, as well as wounding and assault.

He will appear in the Youth Justice Court in Hobart today.

Previously, police had taken a 20-year-old man into custody, who was said to be cooperating with investigators.

However, at this stage charges have not been laid against that man or anyone else in relation to the stabbings.

Police are still urging any potential witnesses ot anyone with information who may not have spoken to investigators to come forward.
