New Jersey driver hit by passing car following 4 a.m. turnpike crash

In a tragic turn of events, a man from New Jersey, who managed to survive an early morning collision on the New Jersey Turnpike, lost his life when he was hit by a passing vehicle upon exiting his car later that Monday morning.

According to the New Jersey State Police, Albert R. Masonius, a resident of Keyport, was struck by an SUV in South Brunswick around 4 a.m., as reported by NJ.com.

The fatal incident followed a five-car crash where Masonius’s vehicle collided with a minivan after being hit by another car. Police indicated that this chain reaction left Masonius’s car immobile in the Turnpike’s inner roadway center lane.

Additionally, two individuals traveling in a Honda SUV sustained injuries during the multi-vehicle accident.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the driver of the SUV involved in Masonius’s death has been identified or questioned. At this time, state troopers have not provided any comment on the matter.

Coincidentally, New Jersey State Police highlighted Pedestrian Safety Day on their Facebook page Monday, aligning with their participation in the National Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day event.
