Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a serious turn of events, 17-year-old Kameryn Nehemiah Copeland from Ocala is now facing adult charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery. This follows an incident on July 30, where a resident at the Crossing at Santa Fe Apartments was assaulted with a firearm.

On the evening of July 30, around 8 p.m., deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at the Crossing at Santa Fe Apartments, located at 3205 NW 83rd Street. Upon investigation, they discovered blood near the entrances of two apartments. With the resident’s consent, they searched one apartment, uncovering a strong odor of burnt marijuana and a significant amount of blood, including two bloody handprints on the carpet. Inside, they found the resident’s cell phone under an overturned chair and a suitcase by the door containing a large bag of marijuana. Loose marijuana, unrolled blunts, baggies, and scales were scattered throughout the apartment.

While interviewing the victim at the hospital, deputies learned that he was attacked by three males who had been staying in the apartment. Two were identified as his roommate’s cousins, while the third was known to him by the nickname “Greenlight Sammy.” The juveniles were referred to as “Landon or LA” and “Spook.”

The victim recounted that the assault began when Greenlight Sammy attacked him. As he defended himself, the other two joined the fray. The assailants believed he had a stash of cash and marijuana in his safe. All three carried handguns, and when he attempted to seize Greenlight Sammy’s weapon, one of the attackers urged the others to shoot. At that point, the victim ceased resisting and endured a beating with their firearms.

After the assault, the suspects left him on the floor, taking his safe, approximately $40 in cash, and his cell phone. The victim mentioned an AirTag inside the safe and instructed deputies on tracking it. Following the trail, the AirTag was located on the side of I-75, just north of Ocala. However, the safe itself was missing, leading deputies to believe the suspects discovered the tracking device, removed it, and discarded it during their escape.

On July 31, deputies learned that the juveniles were cousins of the victim’s roommate and had been staying in the apartment for the past 10 days, but the roommate said he did not know the last names of either of his cousins; the juveniles were reportedly “on the run” from Marion County, but the roommate reportedly said he did not know what they were running from.

Detectives determined that “Greenlight Sammy” is Jaishun Mikal Darrien Turner, 24, of Reddick; “Landon” is  Lynden Armon Maysonet, 14, of Ocala; and “Spook” is Copeland, who is also from Ocala. The victim reportedly picked all three out of photo line-ups.

On August 1, an officer from the Marion County Department of Juvenile Justice called Alachua County Sheriff’s Office to report that Maysonet and Copeland had cut off their ankle monitors and were believed to be staying with the victim’s roommate.

All three suspects have been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery. Turner has been booked into the Alachua County Jail and is being held without bail until trial. Maysonet has been charged as an adult and is also being held without bail until trial.

Copeland has multiple juvenile convictions between 2022 and 2025, and Judge Adam Lee ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
