Illinois steamrolls Florida Gulf Coast, Boswell scores career high

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – The Illinois men’s basketball team is off to a strong start this season, boasting a 2-0 record following their victory on Friday night.

The Illini showcased their prowess with a commanding 113-70 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

Brad Underwood’s squad delivered a well-rounded performance, quickly establishing an 18-1 lead at the game’s onset. Kylan Boswell was a standout, achieving a career-best 31 points. Freshmen stars Keaton Wagler and David Mirkovic contributed impressively with 22 and 17 points, respectively, while Zvonimir Ivisic added 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks to the mix.

Both Boswell and Mirkovic recorded double-doubles, highlighting their significant contributions to the team’s success.

By halftime, Illinois had secured a commanding 59-27 lead, maintaining their momentum throughout the rest of the game.

Making his debut for the Illini, Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic returned from injury after missing both the exhibition game against Illinois State and the season opener against Jackson State. He contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Illinois was without four players due to injury: Brandon Lee, Tomislav Ivisic, Mihailo Petrovic and Ty Rodgers.

The Illini now turn their attention to a ranked opponent. No. 10 Texas Tech visits State Farm Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
