In a chilling development, a 24-year-old man from Ohio has been apprehended in Canada following the discovery of his parents’ bodies in their Crestline home. The suspect, Maxwell L. Anatra, has since been returned to the United States and is currently detained in Michigan, awaiting extradition to Ohio, as reported by Crawford County Now.
The sequence of events began when the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request on Wednesday morning. Lisa Anatra, aged 61, had failed to report to work, prompting concern from a co-worker. This colleague visited her residence and, upon observing what appeared to be blood, immediately contacted emergency services, according to WSYZ.
Upon arrival, officers entered the residence and discovered Lisa Anatra’s lifeless body. Tragically, a second victim, 63-year-old Matthew Lindsey Anatra, was later found in a detached garage on the same property.
In the wake of these discoveries, family members informed authorities that their son, Maxwell Anatra, had been present at the home the previous evening. However, attempts to contact him by phone proved unsuccessful. Investigations revealed that Anatra had traveled to Michigan earlier that day, with indications suggesting he intended to escape into Canada.
Acting swiftly, detectives secured a murder warrant for Anatra and enlisted the assistance of the federal Department of Homeland Security. By late Wednesday afternoon, Canadian officials had captured Anatra as he attempted to cross the border, ensuring his eventual return to face charges in Ohio.
Detectives obtained a murder warrant for Anatra’s arrest and contacted the federal Department of Homeland Security. Late Wednesday afternoon, they learned that Anatra had been taken into custody by Canadian officials after he crossed the border.
He is being held at the St. Clair County jail on the Ohio murder warrant.
