During an appearance at the 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival held in Los Angeles, California, Donald Glover, the multi-talented actor and musician also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, shed light on his absence over the past year and the reasons behind his decision to cancel the 2024 tour.

In a candid moment at the music festival on Sunday, Glover, who is 42 years old, divulged that a serious health issue had been the catalyst for the tour’s cancellation. He revealed that he had experienced a stroke and subsequently underwent two surgeries to repair a hole in his heart.

Recounting the ordeal, Glover shared, “I felt an intense pain in my head while in Louisiana, but I went on with the show. My vision was impaired, so by the time we reached Houston, I decided to visit the hospital. That’s when the doctor informed me, ‘You had a stroke.’ My initial thought was, ‘Here I am, once again following in Jamie Foxx’s footsteps.’ But truly, my first thought was, ‘I’m letting everyone down.'”

Glover shared these personal insights while performing at the Dodger Stadium, using the platform to express how this health scare had fundamentally shifted his perspective on life during a heartfelt “where have I been monologue.”

“Everyone has two lives, and the second begins when you realize you only have one,” he told the captivated audience. “We only have one life, guys. Honestly, the life I’ve shared with all of you has been an incredible blessing. I adore singing and performing for you all,” Glover expressed, underscoring his gratitude and renewed appreciation for his career and fans.

“Everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” he said while addressing the festival crowd. “You got one life guys. And I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing. I love singing and performing for you guys.”

“As my wife says, which I love, ‘if this life is a flavor, as soon as I’m done, give me another scoop,’” he recalled. “You should be living your life how you want because it can only get better.”

Glover previously mentioned the health scare in a now deleted post to social media last year.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked,” Glover wrote in a now deleted post. “As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”

The surgery came a month after he postponed the final 15 dates of his North American tour.

The “Atlanta” and “Community” actor had said his “New World” tour was part of his final project using the Childish Gambino stage persona, along with his latest album and a film, both titled “Bando Stone and the New World,” and the retitled “Atavista,” a reworked version of his “3.15.2020” album.
