A tragic incident unfolded at a California beach on Saturday, as a man is feared dead after being swept out to sea alongside two women. This unfortunate event occurred just a week following a similar tragedy where a father and his 7-year-old daughter drowned at the same location, officials have reported.

The three individuals were standing on the rocks at Soberanes Point in Garrapata State Park around 3 p.m. when they were suddenly pulled into the ocean by a powerful wave, according to information from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses nearby recounted hearing desperate cries for help.

Fortunately, the two women managed to swim back to safety and were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical assessment. Their current conditions have not yet been disclosed.

A Coast Guard helicopter later spotted what seemed to be a body around 4:30 p.m., but visibility was lost amid hazardous surf conditions, preventing an immediate recovery.

The search efforts for the missing man were halted as night fell on both Saturday and Sunday. Plans were in place to continue the recovery mission on Monday morning.

The missing individual is described as approximately 30 years old and was last seen dressed in a white turban, black shirt, black shorts, and a black vest-style jacket.

The search was suspended Saturday evening due to darkness and hazardous conditions. Dive teams and drones resumed operations Sunday morning but high winds and unsafe water conditions hindered the search. Recovery efforts were again halted at nightfall, though were expected to continue Monday.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the Soberanes Point area, warning people to stay off coastal rocks and out of the ocean under all circumstances.

“Conditions remain extremely dangerous, and a Beach Hazards Statement is still in effect,” the sheriff’s office said.

Last week, 15-to-20-foot waves swept a 39-year-old father and his young daughter — visiting from Calgary, Alberta, Canada — into the ocean. Both died. Their bodies have since been recovered.
