Paul Susie has been formally charged with first- and second-degree assault, along with additional charges, as announced by the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The unsettling incident took place on a Saturday evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., three 12-year-old girls were making their way through the neighborhood, performing Christmas carols in the 1700 block of Point No Point Drive in Annapolis.

As detailed in charging documents obtained by local news outlet WTOP, the group approached Susie’s front door, where one of the girls knocked twice and informed him they were caroling. Susie was reportedly inside, observing from a bay window.

The authorities reported that Susie allegedly aimed a gun at the girls from within his home. Police arrived at the scene soon after, taking Susie into custody. He allegedly admitted involvement and mentioned consuming at least one alcoholic drink.

The suspect “pointed a firearm at them from a window inside of his residence,” the police department said. Sometime later, officers responded to the scene and arrested Susie. He reportedly admitted to having been involved, saying he had drunk at least one alcoholic beverage.

Authorities noted that Susie’s stoop was well-lit at the time. His gun, a .40-caliber Glock handgun for which he had a permit, was recovered. However, he was reportedly also charged with handling a handgun while under the influence.

Annapolis, Maryland, the state’s capital, is located on Chesapeake Bay; it is roughly 30 miles east of Washington, D.C.
