In a troubling series of events on Saturday evening, two individuals fell victim to slashing attacks within the subway system in Midtown Manhattan, underscoring ongoing concerns about safety in the area.

The first incident involved a 15-year-old boy who was attacked underground by another teenager. This occurred on the city’s West Side, just a block from the bustling Times Square. Police reported that the young victim was injured on his right arm around 6:11 p.m. at the 42nd St.-Port Authority station, located at W. 42nd St. and Eighth Ave.

Emergency Medical Services promptly arrived on the scene, transporting the boy to Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Authorities noted that the suspect, also a teenager, was last seen wearing a brown jacket as they continue their search.

Just an hour prior to this incident, a separate attack took place on the East Side. A 38-year-old man was slashed with an unidentified sharp object following a dispute with his assailant aboard a southbound No. 6 train. The confrontation occurred as the train was entering the Grand Central-42nd St. subway station around 5:02 p.m.

These violent episodes, occurring within such close proximity and time frame, have heightened the urgency for increased security measures and vigilance within New York City’s transit system.

Meanwhile, one hour earlier and less than a mile away, on the East Side, a 38-year-old man was slashed with an unknown sharp object after arguing with his attacker aboard a southbound No. 6 train heading into the Grand Central-42nd St. subway station around 5:02 p.m.

EMS transported the man to Bellevue Hospital where he was in stable condition.

The assailant, sporting all gray clothes and a green beanie, fled in an unknown direction.
