A tragic car accident in Staten Island on Friday morning left a 7-year-old girl fighting for her life. The crash, which occurred around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Rockland Ave. and Forest Hill Road in New Springville, also involved two elderly individuals, including a 90-year-old man, according to police reports.

The collision involved a Honda SUV and an Audi SUV, resulting in injuries to five individuals. Emergency responders noted that one person fled the scene before they could administer medical aid, leaving it unclear whether that individual was a driver or passenger in one of the vehicles.

The young girl was swiftly transported by EMS to Staten Island University North Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The other injured parties, a 50-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman, and the 90-year-old man, were also taken to the same hospital. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover.

Police reported that both vehicles suffered extensive front-end damage, and initial investigations suggest that one of the cars may have been hit while attempting to turn into a nearby park.

Three other people from the two-car crash, which included a 50-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 90-year-old man, were also taken to Staten Island University North Hospital and are expected to survive.

Both vehicles sustained massive front end damage, cops said. One of the cars may have been struck as it made a turn into a nearby park.

No charges were filed as police continue their investigation.

The intersection where the crash occurred was renamed “Brianna Gabrielle Gioia Corner” in 2008 to honor a 20-year-old woman who died in a crash at the corner. The car Gioia was in was being driven by a high school student without a license who crashed after her right tire got caught in a gully and she veered into oncoming traffic.
