A postal worker in Florida is facing legal trouble after allegedly attempting to run over a 10-year-old child with his USPS vehicle. This incident reportedly occurred when the driver noticed the child riding a scooter while carrying a package he had just delivered, as stated by police authorities.

According to officials, the young boy was merely trying to deliver the package to a neighbor’s home after it had been mistakenly delivered to his own address.

“This isn’t just a simple, ‘Oops,’ crash with a 10-year-old in the road,” Florida Highway Patrol Capt. Jason King told local ABC affiliate WEAR. “This is an intentional act by a United States postal worker.”

William White Jr., aged 41, has been charged with attempting to hit the child in an Escambia County neighborhood on December 27. The incident took place on Kingfisher Way, near the boy’s residence, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The police report, cited by WEAR, outlines that “White mistakenly delivered a package to the wrong house.” The child, who lived at that residence, realized the mistake and decided to transport the package on his electric scooter to the correct address.

FHP officials reveal that White allegedly perceived the boy as a thief upon seeing him with the package. In response, he reportedly “intentionally steered the USPS truck toward the child, running over the scooter,” narrowly avoiding the boy, who suffered an ankle injury while evading the vehicle, according to the authorities.

The police report describes how the child managed to reach a nearby yard just before the scooter was hit. Afterward, White reportedly retrieved the scooter from beneath his truck and placed it on the vehicle. As White was driving away, the boy’s parents emerged to confront him. He allegedly shouted at the child before leaving the scene.

“It’s a 10-year-old on a scooter, it’s not a normal porch pirate running up snatching packages that you just dropped off,” King told WEAR. “It’s amazing what a small conversation would do in a situation rather than jumping straight to force, use of force…or really escalating the situation way past where it should have been.”

White was questioned about the incident several days later and arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft, and criminal mischief.

“The U.S. Postal Service takes the safety and well-being of our customers and employees seriously,” USPS officials told the Pensacola News Journal in a statement. “The Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement arm of the Postal Service, is actively investigating this issue in partnership with local law enforcement. We can confirm that the individual has been employed [since] 2025. The Postal Service does not publicly comment on personnel matters.”

White has been released on a $5,500 bond and is awaiting his next court date.
