The Clovis Police Department has identified 62-year-old Steve Myer as the driver involved in the incident that occurred on Saturday at a Trader Joe’s parking lot in Clovis, located in California’s Central Valley. Authorities were notified and responded at 2:23 p.m. following a report of a toddler being struck by a vehicle.

According to a report by local ABC affiliate KFSN, the child involved is 5 years old, and both the child and the mother were hit as they walked through the parking area. Myer is alleged to have been the driver of the truck that struck them.

Police reports indicate that the child was “awake and alert” when officers arrived and was considered to be in “stable condition with moderate injuries.” Emergency medical personnel treated the mother at the scene before both were transported to the hospital, where their conditions are expected to improve.

KFSN further reported that Myer stayed at the scene and engaged with law enforcement. After conducting a field sobriety test, police suspected he was intoxicated while driving, leading to his arrest without any complications.

KFSN reported that Myer remained at the scene and spoke to police, who conducted a field sobriety test. Myer was suspected by police of being intoxicated while he was driving, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Myer was charged with felony DUI and booked into the Fresno County Jail. His name was not found on the inmate roster as of Monday. His next court date was not made publicly available.
