A tense situation unfolded Monday night in Jacksonville, Florida, resulting in a fatal shooting during a police investigation into a domestic dispute. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that a man was shot by officers after allegedly brandishing a firearm during the incident near Bartram Park.

The confrontation took place at the Luxor Club Apartments on Egrets Nest Drive. Around 8:30 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls concerning a disturbance involving a married couple. Among the callers was an employee of the apartment complex, who reported hearing a woman screaming and witnessing her on the hood of a Tesla, striking the vehicle. After she dismounted, the car, driven by her husband, left the premises but returned shortly thereafter.

The situation escalated when a witness claimed to have seen the husband with a gun upon his return. Responding officers quickly arrived at the scene, taking steps to separate the couple to assess the situation better. It was during this attempt to gather the man’s account that he allegedly drew a firearm, prompting the officers to respond with lethal force.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office held a news conference to detail the events, emphasizing the urgency and danger posed when officers attempted to engage with the husband. This incident has once again raised questions about the complexities police face during domestic disputes and the unpredictable nature of such encounters.

JSO said the driver, identified as her husband, returned a short time later, and a caller reportedly saw him with a gun.

Once officers got on scene, JSO said they separated the two to get a better understanding of the conflict. As officers approached the man to get his side of the story, however, the agency said he pulled out a gun.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Rodriguez, was shot by the two officers. Despite receiving aid on scene and being taken to a local hospital, he died from his injuries.

No officers were injured.

This is the agency’s first officer-involved shooting of the year. There were 17 in 2025, according to JSO.

As with other officer-involved shootings, the State Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation to determine if there was any criminal action by the officers. The sheriff’s office will also conduct its own administrative investigation to determine if agency policy was followed.
