ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities apprehended a man on Tuesday following an incident where he allegedly attempted to flee after hitting a bicyclist with a box truck in Orange County. This information was reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to an arrest affidavit, troopers arrived at two locations around 8 p.m. The first was the accident site near the intersection of U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) and Woodsmere Avenue. The second location was mile marker 90A on the eastbound side of Interstate 4, where the box truck driver was stopped and detained by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, identified as 41-year-old Jose Agustin Batista Grullon from Orlando, was taken into custody by troopers. He faces charges for not remaining at the scene of a crash that resulted in serious bodily harm, as detailed in the affidavit.

Witnesses reported seeing a Ryder box truck leave a parking lot or side street when it collided with a bicyclist. The vehicle allegedly slowed momentarily before continuing forward, dragging the bicycle and its rider beneath the truck and into the middle of northbound Orange Blossom Trail, according to the affidavit.

One witness provided assistance to the injured bicyclist, while another kept track of the fleeing truck until law enforcement could intercept it, troopers noted.

The injured bicyclist was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. At the time of the report, troopers stated the individual was in critical and unstable condition.
