In a dramatic development in Minneapolis, a newly released video sheds light on the moments leading up to a fatal shooting by a federal immigration officer. The incident, which claimed the life of Renee Good, has ignited a nationwide debate over the officer’s actions, questioning whether they were carried out in self-defense or with reckless disregard.
This crucial footage, recorded by a bystander and shared by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, runs for three minutes and thirty-two seconds. On a snowy street, the video captures the tense atmosphere with federal officers and vehicles present, while the sound of a blaring car horn and whistles fills the air.
As the camera pans to the left, viewers see a red SUV, driven by Good, positioned perpendicular to the road, effectively blocking it. Good is seen persistently pressing the horn. After some time, she appears to slightly reverse the SUV, allowing some vehicles to pass while she gestures them on.
Good’s wife is noticeable outside the SUV, though her exact location prior to this moment is unclear from the footage. Shortly thereafter, sirens wail as a dark truck with a flashing light approaches, halting a short distance from Good’s vehicle. Two officers emerge from the truck and head towards the SUV, at which point the video abruptly ends.
Additional videos, captured from various perspectives and released earlier, reveal the subsequent events. Footage from the officer who discharged their weapon shows an attempt to engage with Good: one officer requests her to exit the vehicle, while another attempts to open the car door. The filming officer then moves towards the front of the SUV, capturing the moments just before the situation escalates.
A video filmed by the officer who fired at Good shows one officer ask Good to get out of the car and another tries to open her door. The officer who is filming circles around to the front of the vehicle.
Good reverses briefly, which places the officer who is filming in front of the driver’s side of the vehicle. Good then turns the steering wheel toward the passenger side as the officer on the driver’s side says again, “get out of the car.” Almost simultaneously, her wife, standing on the passenger side and trying to open the door, shouts, “drive, baby, drive!”
The video veers up toward the sky and gunshots are heard.
Other footage of the shooting shows the officer who fired holstering his gun, then a few seconds of silence before Good’s SUV crashes into a parked car.
A woman who appears to be Good’s wife runs toward the crash, as the officer who fired walks in the same direction. Bystanders begin screaming.
