Minnesota Prays for a Judge to Jump in, Takes Trump Admin to Court Over ICE Actions

More than five years have passed since the George Floyd protests shook Minneapolis to its core, leaving parts of the city in ruins. Yet, Minnesotans find themselves once again taking to the streets, this time to voice their dissent against ICE’s operations in the Twin Cities. The latest wave of protests was sparked by a tragic incident involving Renee Good, an activist who was fatally shot by an ICE agent. According to reports, Good was driving her vehicle in a threatening manner towards the agent when the shooting occurred.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has increasingly turned to the judiciary as a strategic tool to counter the president’s agenda during his second term. Despite facing defeats at the ballot box and in Congress, they have found some success in leveraging the courts. By securing temporary restraining orders and injunctions from activist judges, they have managed to challenge the administration effectively. Recent months have seen district judges ruling against the administration several times, with over 500 challenges and daily injunctions being issued.

In a significant move on Monday, Minnesota’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, a prominent figure on the state’s political left, announced legal action against the Department of Homeland Security. This bold step underscores Minnesota’s willingness to engage in the legal battle, joining the ranks of states contesting federal policies.

Attention has also been drawn to local leaders, with CBP Commander highlighting the roles of Governor Walz and Mayor Frey as anti-ICE violence persists in Minneapolis.

Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul sued the Trump administration Monday, seeking to block a massive federal immigration enforcement surge they say has flooded the Twin Cities with armed agents, sparked fear and unrest, and interfered with state and local authorities, according to court filings.

The lawsuit names Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, top officials with DHS, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, along with the federal agencies themselves.

In a news conference, Ellison threw out all sorts of progressive dogma as he claimed ICE was conducting a “federal invasion” and making “racist arrests.”

“We’re here to announce a lawsuit we’re filing against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to end the unlawful, unprecedented surge of the federal law enforcement agents into Minnesota,” Ellison charged. “We allege that the obvious targeting of Minnesota for our diversity, for our democracy and our differences of opinion with the federal government is a violation of the Constitution and of federal law.”

No, they’re not targeting you for your diversity, Keith; they’re targeting you because you’ve coddled an untold number of illegal aliens, you’ve allowed Somali fraud to flourish unchecked, and your state is the poster child of everything that’s wrong with progressive policies.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin was not impressed with Minnesota’s continued antics:

It really is astounding that the Left can miraculously rediscover the Tenth Amendment when they don’t want federal law enforcement officers to enforce federal law — which is a clear federal responsibility under Article I, Article II and the Supremacy Clause — and then go right back to federalizing every state responsibility possible when they get back in power. Spare us.

I would love to tell you that this is a frivolous lawsuit that will be quickly jettisoned by a competent jurist, but all too often, we have seen district judges shading decisions to align with their own ideological views. In the meantime, it feels like “here we go again.”

Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
