MrBeast claims he has negative money despite billionaire status

Is MrBeast truly facing financial difficulties?

In a recent conversation with the Wall Street Journal, popular YouTuber MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, made some startling comments regarding his financial situation. The 27-year-old content creator is well-known for his extravagant online giveaways and large-scale projects, which have fueled speculation about his wealth.

“It’s always amusing to discuss my personal finances because people never seem to believe me when I say, ‘You’re a billionaire,'” Donaldson remarked. “But what they’re referring to is my net worth.”

As of June 2025, Forbes estimates MrBeast’s net worth to be around $85 million. Meanwhile, Fortune reported in September 2025 that his company, Beast Industries, in which he holds a majority stake, has been valued at a staggering $5 billion.

However, during the interview, Donaldson made a surprising revelation: “I actually have negative money right now,” he admitted. “I’m borrowing money. That’s how little cash I have on hand. Technically, if you exclude the equity value of my company, which doesn’t exactly buy me breakfast at McDonald’s, everyone watching this video probably has more in their bank account than I do.”

He further explained that he typically maintains less than $1 million in his personal bank account, highlighting the gap between his perceived wealth and liquid assets.

“I just don’t really think of it. I wake up, I just work. I’m just so busy working. I don’t really think about my personal bank account, if that makes sense,” he told the WSJ. “I’m just laser-focused on making the greatest videos possible and building the business as big as possible.”

Despite his finance claims, MrBeast revealed that he recently splurged to see his fiancée, Thea Booysen.

“She was studying in the UK and I really wanted to see her,” he explained. “I don’t live near a major airport. I have to drive two hours to an airport to then take a layover to take a layover to get to places. One time I was like, ‘Screw it. I’m just gonna rent a private jet and fly to her because I really want to see her.’”

“But if I don’t rent a PJ, I literally just can’t make it work,” he continued. “A PJ flight is eight hours, whereas, commercial it’d be like 19 there and back. It’s like so much wasted time, and that was probably, like $150,000.”

MrBeast added, “I felt so bad, but I just really wanted to see my fiancée.”

Last June, MrBeast claimed he asked his mom for money to pay for his upcoming wedding to Booysen, 28.

“I personally have very little money because I reinvest everything (I think this year we’ll spend around a quarter of a billion on content),” he tweeted.

“Ironically i’m actually borrowing $ from my mom to pay for my upcoming wedding lol,” he added, “But sure, on paper the businesses I own are worth a lot.”

In addition to his Beast Industries business, the social media personality has his competition series  “Beast Games,” which gave its first season winner a whopping $10 million in prize money, and his Feastables chocolate brand.
