In a significant breakthrough, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has apprehended two suspects in the murder case of Kenneth Lockhart. The individuals, identified as 38-year-old Amen Mathis and 60-year-old Gregory Woods, are now facing serious charges related to the crime.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities have made headway in the investigation of a tragic Christmas Eve shooting that claimed the life of 55-year-old Kenneth Lockhart. On that fateful night, officers were dispatched to a scene on St. Augustine Road, close to Emerson Street, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Lockhart suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries before medical personnel could intervene.

Homicide detectives swiftly initiated an investigation, turning to surveillance footage from the vicinity. The video revealed a heated altercation between Lockhart and two men, who were subsequently seen firing shots at him before fleeing the scene.

Through diligent police work, one suspect, Amen Mathis, was identified and taken into custody early on Christmas morning. The investigation remained active, and efforts to locate the second suspect continued.

On January 28, the U.S. Marshals Task Force successfully apprehended Gregory Woods, concluding a month-long search and bringing both suspects into custody to face justice.

The investigation continued, and 60-year-old Gregory Woods was identified as the second suspect. The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Woods on Jan. 28.

Woods and Mathis are being held at the Duval County jail and are charged with 2nd-degree murder. They are each also charged with possessing guns as convicted felons.
