A tragic incident unfolded in Florida as a man faces charges of premeditated murder following the fatal shooting of his father-in-law late on Tuesday night.
According to an arrest report, tensions were high in the household before the death of Bill Toth, who was shot in his kitchen by 42-year-old Shaun Simon, as reported by WOFL.
Bill Toth was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Carol Toth, Bill’s wife, and their daughter, Jennifer Simon, informed investigators that Bill had been exhibiting symptoms of dementia for several months, a situation that reportedly intensified household tensions, according to Law&Crime.
On the night of the incident, the police report states that Bill Toth allegedly “slapped” his wife, which incited Shaun Simon’s anger. Following this, Jennifer Simon and Carol Toth heard a loud “bang,” discovering Bill bleeding on the floor.
Authorities reported that Shaun Simon admitted to the shooting, citing that the elder Toth had made his life intolerable and characterized him as a narcissist. He stated that he decided to shoot Bill Toth after learning about the alleged slapping incident. Simon retrieved his concealed gun from under a dog ramp and shot his father-in-law.
Simon was ordered held without bond and ordered to have no contact with his mother-in-law, although he is allowed to have contact with his wife.
