Nancy Grace, known for her expertise in crime reporting, has weighed in on the ransom letters linked to the alleged abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie. The letters were reportedly sent to various media outlets, prompting widespread concern.
Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, Grace, who previously collaborated with Savannah Guthrie at CourtTV, remarked, “There’s something in that ransom note that’s accurate.” She highlighted that there are reportedly two or possibly three identical ransom notes distributed to different outlets. Grace pointed out the significance of the notes being sent to local stations and TMZ, suggesting that the sender might be familiar with the area.
Grace also commented on the emotional appeal made by Savannah Guthrie and her siblings in a video plea to the alleged kidnappers. Despite their public request, there has been no confirmed communication from the captors. However, Tucson’s KOLD station reported receiving a second letter on Friday morning, as noted by CrimeOnline.
Grace expressed confidence that the family is collaborating closely with law enforcement, emphasizing that the public appeal suggests they found something credible in the ransom note. She believes such a move indicates the family’s trust in the message’s authenticity.
On Thursday night, Savannah Guthrie shared another video on Instagram, featuring only her brother, Camron Guthrie, as part of their ongoing effort to reach out to the alleged kidnappers.
Addressing the broader investigation, Grace advised authorities to concentrate on the details within the ransom note and to ensure the integrity of the crime scene. She noted that the crime scene had been secured, reopened, and then secured again, underscoring the need for meticulous handling of the investigation.
The CrimeOnline host further said she was skeptical of reports that Tommaso Cioni, Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law and husband of her sister Annie, might be a suspect.
“I could be wrong, but I find it very hard to believe that the sister and Savannah and Camron are going to make a public plea to an unknown kidnapper when they all think it’s the brother-in-law,” she said. “It just doesn’t make sense to me.”
