EL PASO, Texas – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a 10-day closure of airspace surrounding El Paso International Airport, effectively halting all flights to and from the facility.

According to a notice on the FAA’s website, the temporary flight restrictions are being enforced for “special security reasons.” However, the notice did not elaborate further on the nature of these security concerns. It is important to note that this closure does not extend to Mexican airspace.

The airport communicated via Instagram that from late Tuesday until late February 20, all flights, including commercial, cargo, and general aviation, will be suspended. Travelers are advised to reach out to their respective airlines for the latest updates on their flight schedules.

Serving as a major hub, El Paso International Airport facilitates travel to west Texas, southern New Mexico, and northern Mexico. Airlines such as Southwest, United, American, and Delta operate flights from this location.
