A New Jersey English teacher, once entrusted with shaping young minds, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after it was uncovered that she became pregnant by one of her students. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the grave breach of trust committed by Julie Rizzitello, aged 37.

Rizzitello, who was married at the time, admitted guilt to two counts of second-degree sexual assault last year. Her illicit activities involved engaging in numerous sexual acts with two of her students over an extended period. The scandal unfolded as details of her misconduct became public, revealing a disturbing pattern of behavior.

The initial victim was a freshman at Wall Township High School when he first encountered Rizzitello. Over the course of 2017 and 2018, she engaged in repeated sexual encounters with the teenager. The relationship crossed a particularly alarming line when Rizzitello reportedly urged the young man to have unprotected sex with her on his birthday, leading to her becoming pregnant.

Subsequently, she opted for an abortion and disclosed the timeline of events to the student, according to a report by Jersey Shore Online. This revelation added another layer to the already distressing case, illustrating the serious ramifications of her actions.

During the sentencing, Monmouth County Judge Jill Grace did not mince words, condemning Rizzitello’s actions and accusing her of ‘grooming’ the students involved. The judge’s strong stance underscored the severity of the betrayal and the impact it had on the victims and their families.

Monmouth County Judge Jill Grace held nothing back during Rizzitello’s hearing, accusing the disgraced teacher of ‘grooming’ her students.

‘Not only does he have to deal with the fact that he’s groomed throughout his entire high school years, that he was preyed upon by his teacher, whom he loved and trusted … that he was sexually abused by this teacher,’ she said.

‘But now he’s struggling to come to terms with the fact that this individual had an abortion and [he] wasn’t comfortable with it. This is the psychological impact — the devastation.’

Rizzitello reportedly invited the freshman into her classroom during lunch, engaged in conversation and even told him she had a dream about having sex with him.

At the sentencing, O’Malley read the boy’s statement.

‘No kid should have the feeling of sickening anxiety and panic attacks while just trying to get through school,’ he wrote.

He reportedly dropped out of college in the fallout of the case.

Investigators determined she was engaged in sexual relations with an 18-year-old student whom she met as a junior at Wall Township High School between April and June 2024.

Both victims reportedly worked at Rizzitello’s family bagel shop.

Rizzitello allegedly had ‘vaginal and oral sex’ with each of them across three cities, at her home, in her car and even at the shop during operating hours.

‘The defendant knew because of her position as a teacher, that these victims were particularly vulnerable,’ O’Malley said.

‘She preyed on them in a safe place. She isolated them.’

Rizzitello was arrested in 2024, just days after resigning from her teaching position.

She reportedly contacted both victims afterward, asking them to scrub evidence from their phones.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago addressed Wednesday’s sentencing in a statement.

‘These crimes were not isolated incidents constituting moments of poor judgment; they were textbook cases of grooming, involving a defendant who repeatedly leveraged tactics of isolation, manipulation, and control for the sake of her own selfish purposes,’ he said.

‘The egregious nature of the conduct was further compounded by the plain fact that the emotional and psychological harm she inflicted came at the expense of two of the very same young minds she had been entrusted to develop and nurture.’

Rizzitello married her husband in 2017 and has two young children of her own.

The defense reportedly attempted to use her position as a mother and her lack of criminal history as reasons to reduce the sentence to just five years.

The request was denied.

Rizzitello will serve two ten-year sentences concurrently. She will be subject to parole for life and must register as a sex offender.

‘This is grooming,’ O’Malley said.

‘It is traditional grooming that I see every week here in this courthouse. This is the behavior of a standard sexual predator. You’re no different.’

The Daily Mail contacted the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Rizzitello’s attorney and Wall Township High School for comment.
