NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Matrix Club, a well-known event venue in Naperville, has unexpectedly shut its doors. Known for hosting weddings, concerts, and a variety of gatherings, the sudden closure has taken many by surprise.

The venue’s management has cited ongoing legal proceedings as the reason for the closure, although they have not disclosed the specifics of these legal matters. Consequently, several upcoming events have been canceled.

The company is currently devising a plan to assist affected clients and remains optimistic about reopening in the future.

Among those impacted is Yatiksha Rao, a parent from Bolingbrook, who was caught off guard by the news. “I was in shock,” Rao expressed. “I went through all my emotions yesterday, and then I got busy trying to find a new location.”

Located on Route 59, the Matrix Club gained attention when it was featured on ABC7’s special “Our Chicago: 600,000 Strong” last year. It has been a favored venue for a range of events, from weddings to concerts.

The Naperville venue on Route 59 was featured by ABC7 last year in the special “Our Chicago: 600,000 Strong” and is a popular event space for weddings, concerts and other events.

“I felt cheated, because a day before I spoke to Matrix Club discussing what linen I needed and what napkin colors,” Rao said.

Rao is the chair of her children’s annual school dance, which was scheduled at the venue for later this month. She says she was told by the venue’s landlord the Matrix Club had been evicted for lack of lease payment.

The school is now out a $6,000 deposit

“We filed a police report,” Rao said. “I don’t know if we’ll get that back. I hope we get that back.”

The Matrix Club’s owner told ABC7, “legal proceedings continue,” adding “We deeply feel for the frustration this has caused our esteemed clients… The Matrix Club is currently working to establish a structured process… to address deposits by affected clients… whose events we are unable to host during this period.”

Rao says she learned of the closure not from the venue, but a third party, and was about to pay the final $6,000 balance.

“I’m glad I waited, and I’m glad I didn’t pay it,” Rao said.
